Drone Seeding
Drone Seeding FAQs
How wide of a spread pattern does the drone seed?
26.5 feet, but we can adjust it to a lesser width.
What is the flight time for seeding?
Flight time depends on the seed mixture. A 25 lb./acre seed mixture can be applied in about 35 acres per hour.
What supplies does the SWCD provide?
The SWCD provides a certified pilot to fly the drone, along with the drone, truck, trailer, and all drone component needed for seeding.
The SWCD will also help create a seed mix that fits your needs or goals and then order the seed, which will be shipped to the client's farm upon ordering.
What conditions can you fly in?
The drone can fly in winds of up to 15-20 MPH, but if wind conditions meet this threshold, the drone pilot will either narrow the spread of the seed to ensure more even seeding, or will reschedule the seeding.
How does the drone spread the seed?
The drone uses an auger to bring the seed back to the actuator where it throws the seed, then the downward force from the propellers forces the seed into the ground.
How high does the drone fly?
The drone flies at 20 feet above the canopy or surface when seeding at a 26.5 ft spread pattern, or it flies at 15 feet above the canopy when seeding at a 17 ft wide spread pattern.
